15 August 2007 NMHG REVIEWS EUROPEAN MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS: CONSOLIDATION OF 1-8 TONNE PRODUCTION GENERATES ADDITIONAL CAPACITY FOR FUTURE GROWTH Hyster's parent company, the NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG) has just completed a detailed review of its European manufacturing facilities. In keeping with a global strategy of ‘manufacturing in market of sale’ the company will now consolidate production of all 1-8 tonne counterbalanced products sold into Europe, including both electric and IC counterbalanced products, into its plant in Northern Ireland. In a related move, production of its 2-3 tonne internal combustion trucks for sale into the United States will be transferred from Northern Ireland to Berea, Kentucky to free capacity for European demand. Current production at the NMHG plant in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland will scale down and cease by the end of January 2009. Consolidating the European counterbalanced lift truck operations, from two locations into one, in Northern Ireland, and transfer of ICE product destined for the US generates additional capacity for future growth. This will also help to increase efficiency, make the Hyster brand more competitive and strengthen its position in the marketplace. A detailed communication and consultation process is taking place with all employees in Irvine where up to 220 jobs could be affected. It is the intention of the Company that we will maintain on an ongoing basis Divisional activity in Ayrshire, which accounts for over 120 jobs.
