HYSTER ANNOUNCES THE INTRODUCTION OF ITS NEW REACHSTACKER RANGE

Hyster has recently announced the availability of its new RS series of ReachStackers, to be introduced in three phases over the course of the next 12 months.

  • Container Handler (CH) models RS 45-27 CH, RS 45-31 CH and RS 46-36 CH will roll off the production line from September 2006
  • Intermodal Handlers (IH) models RS 45-24 IH, RS 45-28 IH and RS 46-33 IH ‘combi-handlers’ for containers & swap-bodies /trailers will be available from November 2006
  • Front Stabilizer models S-CH and S-IH with additional capacity for 3rd container row / 2nd rail handling will be introduced in Quarter 1, 2007


Product Evolution
These new Hyster ReachStackers are replacing the renowned A222-series machines, which have been manufactured at the Nijmegen, Netherlands plant since 1995. These new generation machines retain the proven frame, boom and spreader structures as well as the front drive axle and rear steer axle of their predecessors.



The engine and transmission, steering and cooling systems, plus certain auxiliary features, are common with the successful H40.00-50.00XM-16CH “first row container stackers”, introduced in 2004/2005.

For 2006, the Hyster ReachStacker features the now proven Hyster “Vista cab”, which offers a wide range of advanced features, to achieve maximum productivity in each shift.

The focus is on driver comfort, ergonomics and excellent visibility: For example,

  • Air-conditioning is featured as standard, as is an air-suspension seat,
  • The dash display is positioned to the driver’s right-hand side, to avoid unnecessary distraction from the operation in hand, and maximise forward visibility.
  • The newly developed joystick offers intuitive control of boom lift and spreader functions
  • The low noise level of 74 dB(A) driver’s ear (BITA equivalent) promotes driver concentration throughout the shift.


Optimum visibility
A powered sliding cab is standard on the new ReachStacker. The cab can be moved to various positions for optimum visibility in variable operating conditions and/or to accommodate drivers preferences. As it is operated using a switch close to the operator, the cab can be moved while driving and/or lifting, to maximise productivity.

The fully backward cab position provides the most comfortable view angle when stacking (4-5) containers high. This position may be preferred by drivers who feel more comfortable behind the lift cylinders.

The cab can slide over 2.6 metres fully forward and a full-forward cab is essential for IH models when handling swap-bodies or trailers, to see the grapple feet at ground level.
Some drivers also prefer the fully forward position for low height container handling. Extra steps & handrails are provided on the left hand front fender, for cab access / exit. Also included is a 2nd set of rear view mirrors on the front fenders



Cleaner power and performance
The new RS-series is a modern, fast and reliable machine. The truck features the Cummins QSM 11, 10.8 litre, 6-cylinder in-line engine fitted as standard. This modern diesel engine conforms to the EC Tier 3 emissions standards for Non-Road Mobile Machinery, thanks to its low exhaust emissions.

This unit provides plenty of power to suit the requirements of a wide variety of applications, with a maximum 224 kW (300 Hp) @ only 1800 rpm, and smooth torque delivery of 1424 Nm @ 1000-1400 rpm. For the most intensive operations, a version of this engine is available with 272 kW (365 Hp) @ 1800 rpm, and maximum torque is a mighty 1674 Nm @ 1000-1400 rpm.

The 365 HP engine is combined with a bigger S.O.H. (Spicer Off-Highway) TE-32 4-speed powershift transmission, instead of the standard TE-27 model. This “more power package” results in noticeably quicker acceleration and agility, plus a 12% higher laden lift speed, and a 2 km/h faster unladen drive speed.



Lowering cost of operation
Speed of operation is key to keeping costs down and productivity levels up. The hydraulic system on the new RS is highly efficient, and has “Power on Demand” and “two-speed lift” functions. The result is lifting speeds that are class leading: The practical 4-mode average lifting speed across the range is a fantastic 0.41 m/sec. Maximum drive speeds are competitive at 20 (with load) to 23 km/h (w/o load), with the standard 224 kW (300 Hp) engine.

Advanced features as standard
The new Hyster ReachStacker has a comprehensive list of standard equipment, including:

  • Air-conditioning
  • Powered sliding cab
  • Electronic Load Moment Protection System with a load weight indicator display.
  • Twistlock indicator lights on the spreader and in the cab roof
  • PDC (Powered Damping Cylinders) spreader forward-backward ’tilt’ control. Tropical cooling package, for working in ambient temperature of up to 50ºC
  • Engine protection system
  • Automatic transmission shifting, with APC200 soft-shift system. With protective lock-out on forward-reverse shifting.
